Questions Utah parents ask

Is Utah Student Driving a driving school?

No. We are a matching service. You tell us your zip code and what you need, and we route your request to independent driving schools near you that hold current Utah Driver License Division certification. All instruction, testing, and billing happens with the school you choose.

What does it cost to use this service?

Nothing. Getting matched and comparing quotes is free for families. Partner schools pay us to receive qualified local requests, which is why we can keep it free on your side.

How many hours does Utah actually require?

For drivers under 19, Utah requires 30 hours of classroom instruction, 6 hours behind the wheel with a certified instructor, and 6 hours of in-car observation. Teens also need 40 hours of supervised practice driving logged with a parent or guardian, 10 of which must be at night.

Does my teen need a learner's permit before the first drive?

Yes. A valid Utah learner's permit must be in hand before any behind-the-wheel session. You can get one at age 15 after passing the written knowledge test. Schools will not put a student in the car without it.

What does driver education typically cost in Utah?

A full teen package usually runs $300 to $450 depending on the city and how much behind-the-wheel time is included. Behind-the-wheel only is commonly $200 to $350, classroom only $100 to $250, and private lessons $50 to $100 per hour. We show you real quotes from local schools rather than one fixed price.

Can I take the final road test with the same school that trained me?

No. Utah requires that your final road test be administered by a different approved third-party tester or by the Driver License Division. We account for this automatically when we match you, so you are never sent somewhere that cannot legally test you.

Do you have Spanish-speaking instructors?

Yes. Select Spanish as your preferred language in the intake form and we only match you with schools that have Spanish-speaking instructors and Spanish course materials. This is one of the most common requests we handle.

How fast will schools contact me?

Most families hear from at least one school within one business day. Requests submitted on weekday mornings often get a response the same afternoon. You are under no obligation to book with anyone who reaches out.

What if I already did the classroom part at my high school?

Choose Behind-the-Wheel Only in the intake. Many Utah high schools cover the classroom requirement but not the in-car hours, and most of our partner schools will complete just that portion for you.

Which parts of Utah do you cover?

Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Weber, and Washington Counties, which together hold the large majority of the state's population. If you are outside those areas, submit the form anyway and we will tell you honestly whether we have a partner who can reach you.
